Book Review - Update

One of my goals this week was to finish The Book Thief. I wanted to try and get it done in time to review today, but writing and life got in the way so I don't think I'll finish it until tomorrow. Here's an update on what I think of it so far.

The Book Thief

I'm about halfway through, and this book is getting crazy good. Zusak has written an awesome character in Liesel Meminger so far, and I expect it's about to get a lot better. I like the dynamic between her and Papa and also the relationship she has with Mama. I think it sort of reflects the way most households are run. Someone has to be the disciplinarian and someone is the old softy. I suspect Mama is so tough on Liesel because a.) they're basically poor and b.) she doesn't want her stepping out of line on the streets, where she could suffer some serious repercussions from the Gestapo.

I can't wait to hit my word count goal, because then I'm going to dive into this book and not come up for air until I'm finished. I can't believe I've waited so long to read this.

The Book Thief is available on Amazon.

  2. I have this one on my shelf and have yet to read it. I let my sister borrow it for her book club. Must get it back and read it now.

BTW, I just started I Am Number 4. It's amazing so far!

  3. I love this book so much! I literally just teared up reading about Liesel, Mama, and Papa just now. I have not had a book effect me like that since I read The Color Purple when I was a teenager.
