What I've Learned - Nano (3)

This is the final installment in What I've Learned during NaNo. But first, a few housekeeping items.

I'd like to congratulate my writing buddy Shana on getting an agent! YAY SHANA!!!! Read all about her journey here. Shana is part of my online writing group and I can only hope that this is the first in a long string of 'congratulations on your agent' posts!

Second, I'd like to wish everyone a HAPPY THANKSGIVING! I'm sure we can all find things we're thankful for. Over the last year of writing, I am definitely thankful for a supportive husband and an equally supportive and plot taming writer's group.

Okay, onto the actual post now.

What I've Learned from my Nano Draft this week:

  • I need a title. I only have 500 words until I hit 50k and I still have no title. I'm going to have to think on this over the long weekend.
  • 50,000 words is not enough. According to Scrivener, 50,000 words will put me at about 130 paperback pages. I'd like to get this up to at least 200 pages. And even that seems short.
  • Juggling projects is hard. To be completely honest, I feel a little like I'm cheating on my '09 NaNo project. It's just been sitting on my computer untouched for the last month. I'm actually eager to get started on revisions as soon as I finish up this draft.
Learn anything exciting about your writing this week?

  1. Scrivener sounds really cool! I like that it gives you that kind of information...I never know about word counts vs. page numbers, etc.
