Baby Got Back(up)

No, this isn't a post about that popular song by Sir Mix A Lot. I want to tell you, dear reader, a little story about my day. I hope you can learn from it.

Last night before bed, I turned off my MacBook like I do every other night. Only last night was different because in the morning, the MacBook refused to turn on. Well, it turned on, but it only got to the screen with the Apple logo and the spinning circle thingy. Of course, this is the laptop I've been using to work on my WIP. Everything is on there. First draft, second draft, outtakes, outlines, character studies, etc. Worst of all, I hadn't backed up onto an external device in weeks, so most of the edits I made were trapped in the machine, lost forever. *cue sad music*

Lucky for me, my husband was able to do some magic and after three hours, he was able to get my files out.

I took my computer to the Mac store, and after a few hours of waiting, I'm back with a brand new hard drive. The "genius" (no, they're not cocky at all at the Mac store) told me he couldn't save anything, so thank god for my husband!!

So friends, the lesson for today is, DON'T BE A DOPE LIKE ME. BACK UP YOUR FILES!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  1. Been there, done that. Precisely the reason I have two backup locations for everything.

  3. it would have been terrible if I lost my whole WIP, but besides that, there wasn't much else saved on here. I wouldn't have lost any music or pictures and I had a hard copy of my WIP so it could have really been MUCH worse.
